AbstractCREAM was an EU research project which aimed at improving rail freight between West and South East Europe. The project was set up first of all to shorten rail transport times on this axis and to cause a substantial modal shift towards rail. 30 partners from 13 countries were involved in this project - including railway companies, the UIC, transport operators, research institutes and consulting companies. Within CREAM the partners have developed organisational improvements, technological innovations and on this basis competitive rail-based transport solutions on a very demanding corridor. The project has been coordinated by HaCon and KombiConsult
